Ocean of Kindness
Kindness Cards!
As you can hopefully tell, we absolutely love kindness. We can’t get enough of it. We think the more kindness in the world the better. That is why we have collaborated with the amazing team at Art of Brilliance to spread even more! Art of Brilliance, who boast the only recognised Doctor of Happiness, are all about improving well-being and thriving - with kindness being key in achieving this. That is why we have teamed up to spread kindness and get society thriving through our Kindness Cards!
So, what are they? Launching on February, 17th, 2025 on Random Act of Kindness Day, our Kindness Cards are tasking people with delivering a random kind act. This could be anything from buying the stranger behind you in the queue a coffee to paying for their car parking ticket. The individual choosing to be kind, simply then passes on the card to the recipient and the process repeats. The individual in possession of the card has the ability to create another wave of kindness, that hopefully creates an ocean resulting in a kinder society. Cool! Right?
Kindness Awards!
So, we’ve excitedly screeched about how our Kindness Cards will create a wave of kindness through society, but that alone isn’t enough kindness. We also think it is really important to recognise those driving kindness, whether that be in their workplace, organisation, local community, anywhere! This encourages others to be kind.
This is where our Kindness Awards come in! We plan to celebrate these trailblazers of kindness in a celebratory charity-gala style evening. During the celebration there are six different kindness awards up for grabs. These six awards are categorised, representing six sectors within society. Representatives from these sectors can enter an individual or organisation for the respective awards. A committee, composed of kindness pioneers, will then decide upon the winner of the prestigious awards.
The inaugural event will be hosted in the South West and will truly be the first of its kind, as the award ceremony focuses on celebrating its attendees and promoting their kindness. Still not overflowing with excitement about the Kindness Awards? Well, we have more information to share about the award categories and making an entree shortly.
Kindness Films!
In case the Kindness Cards and the Kindness Awards wasn’t enough kindness, we also host the Kindness Films accolades. The Kindness Film accolades task College-aged students with producing short videos centred around - you guessed it, kindness! College students from all across the South West can enter their interpretation of kindness for an accolade at our Kindness Films! This accolade can then be added to their individual applications with further education or employment.
Not only are we really excited about how students interpret kindness and what they can produce to showcase it, but we think it’s a really cool way to get future generations thinking about kindness. This, alongside our previously mentioned kindness waves with the Kindness Cards and Kindness Awards, gives us the best chance of creating an ocean of kindness amongst every age group and demographic within society.
Sporting Challenges!
Lastly, but by no means least in our Ocean of Kindness, is the sporting challenges we facilitate each year. This is the sporting roots that we at the charity were fortunate enough to be founded upon. Each year we engage local individuals with a new sporting challenge; this has ranged from climbing Mount Kilimanjaro in 2016 to running the New York Half Marathon in 2024 to commemorate our 10th anniversary.
So, that’s pretty great and everything, but how’s that linked to kindness? Well, here is the really cool thing. We use the sporting challenge as a vehicle to enable individuals in the local community to achieve things they never thought possible. The majority of those undertaking our sporting challenges have never previously participated in climbing mountains, swimming in triathlons, running half marathons or cycling across four different countries in four days! Okay, but how do we bend their arm engage them and enable them to achieve? We train them through kindness. Can’t swim? We’ll get you lessons and be in the pool with you. Never run a Half Marathon and can only run at 06:00? Crikey, looks like we’ve got an early start running with you. Just having some general overwhelming feelings and doubts whether you can do it? We just need to know your coffee order and we’ll be straight over for a chat.
We will do everything necessary to get you achieve and consequently empowered. Why? Because we think it’s the right thing to do.
Social Club!
Sorry! We thought we were finished too! But we couldn’t not mention our Social Club for young adults. We are privileged enough to facilitate weekly social opportunities for young adults, who have a wide variety of learning difficulties including physical disabilities and long-term medical conditions. The club is free to attend and just aims to create some normal social opportunities for adults who are often marginalised within society.
We have been fortunate enough to host various social outings, which include: a Curry night, a Christmas meal, a Mixed Martial Arts lesson, a Cooking Class, a trip to watch both Bristol Bears and Bath Rugby and a Spin Cycling session to name just a few! The only request we have in return is that the adult attendees are kind to one another and encourage others to be kind. This all contributes to our Ocean of Kindness!
